Ratio 1:6 student to instructor.

Course Content:
The following skills will be covered throughout the course:
Types of map and scales
Grid references
Orientating the map
4 D’s of navigation
Timings
Basic contour interpretations
Measuring distances
Linear features (streams, paths, walls etc) and their uses in navigation
Hand railing techniques
Pros and Cons of GPS
Course Outline
This is a one or two day introductory course aimed at equipping your with the essential knowledge and theory to build your competence and confidence navigating in mountainous terrain. You’ll learn key map reading skills, use of a compass and fundamental navigation techniques while gaining plenty of practical experience in a variety of terrains and conditions.

Waterproof jacket and trousers
Warm outdoor wear
Walking boots with good ankle support
Warm hat & gloves
Water bottle
Lunch
Personal medications
Suncream & sun hat
