Discover Rock Climbing
If you are new to climbing or want to experience climbing outside of the indoor wall, this course is for you.
Duration: 1 or 2 days
Perfect for climbers with little or no experience, or indoor climbers hoping to take their climbing outdoors, this course will cover all of the basics at an introductory level.
Due to the introductory nature of this course, we can operate at a 6:1 student/instructor ratio.
This makes the course perfect for groups of friends or family groups wanting to discover rock climbing outdoors.
Local crags include Altnadue Quarry & Mourne Mountains.
£90 per person, per day.

Course Content (Day 1)
The course will be structured to suit the varying levels of participant experience. As a general rule the following topics will be covered on day 1:
Fitting a helmet and harness
Tying into a harness
Belaying
Intro to rock climbing calls
Movement on rock and basic climbing technique
Intro to rock climbing gear
Abseiling
Plenty of climbing
Extended Course (Day 2)
If you opt for the two day course, we’ll look at developing your fundamental skills further, allowing you to be a competent and self-reliant second.
Topics covered may include:
Looking at different disciplines of rock climbing from day one, such as trad climbing or bouldering
Interpreting the guidebook and selecting a climb
Developing the ability to second rock climbs
Belaying both a leader and second
Abseiling using self-protection methods

What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring the below kit:
Waterproof jacket and trousers
Warm outdoor wear
Appropriate footwear for the intended course
Hat & gloves
Water bottle
Lunch
Personal medications
Suncream & sun hat
