Intro to Multi-Pitch Climbing
This course is designed for confident single-pitch climbers looking to transition into multi-pitch terrain

Are you a competent climber, comfortable leading single-pitch trad climbing routes and wanting to look at transitioning into multi-pitch routes to expand your adventures? Or do you have alpine, sea-cliff or big mountain objectives? Then this course is for you.
As well as teaching you to build safe belays at intermediate stances, manage ropes and place gear on longer pitches, we’ll work on managing your exposure and maintaining composure on longer routes.
Delivered at local crags such as Fairhead or in the Mourne Mountains

Course Content:
The following skills will be covered throughout the course:
Interpreting multi-pitch topos in the guidebook
Route planning
Communication techniques on longer routes
Building safe belays at a variety of stances
Rope management for double and single rope systems
Leading and seconding on multi-pitch terrain
Switching leads at belay stances
Placing protection and extending runners effectively
Managing exposure on longer routes
Retreating from multi-pitch routes
Course Outline
We’ll have a chat to determine your goals and objectives at the beginning of the course and can be flexible depending on the level of previous experience of the climbers. As a whole, the course will focus on teaching you how to build safe belays at intermediate stances, effective rope management, placing and managing gear on longer pitches and planning safe descents in order to operate safely and efficiently on multi-pitch terrain.
Pre-requisites
A solid foundation in single-pitch climbing, leading and building belays.

Waterproof jacket and trousers
Warm outdoor wear
Appropriate footwear for the intended course
Warm hat
Leather palmed gloves (for rope work) if possible

Suncream & sun hat
