Night Navigation

This course is designed for competent day time navigators, who want to learn how to safely navigate in the dark

Duration: 3-4 hours

As the autumn months roll in and daylight hours are reduced, the potential to find yourself navigating around the hills in the dark increases.

Do you know what to do if you lose track of time and find yourself trying to navigate in the dark? If not, then this course is for you!

Delivered over the course of an evening in the Mourne Mountains.

£45 per person

Ratio 1:6 student to instructor.

2 people are required as a minimum for this course. For 1 to 1 instruction, please see our Private guiding & Instruction course.


Pre-requisites

This course is aimed at walkers, mountaineers and climbers who wish to develop strategies for navigating in the dark. Due to the short and practical nature of the course, you should already be familiar with basic navigation techniques.

Course Content

Unlike our other courses, this course is fully practical and will consist of lots of navigation legs during the hours of darkness. The course will be fully tailored to individual needs and any learning points will be addressed during the navigation legs.


What’s included?

The following kit will be provided by Adventure Climbing Company on the day. You may bring your own if you have it:

  • Climbing ropes

  • Technical climbing equipment, e.g. screw gates and quick draws

  • Harness

  • Helmet

  • Chalk bag

  • Rock shoes

  • Belay plate

What do I need to bring?

You will need to bring the below kit:

  • Waterproof jacket and trousers

  • Warm outdoor wear

  • Appropriate footwear for the intended course

  • Warm hat & gloves

  • Water bottle

  • Lunch

  • Personal medications

  • Suncream & sun hat
